Just Plain Wrong: House Republican Bill Undermines the Violence Against Women Act
The passage of the Violence Against Women Act nearly two decades ago was an historic moment for America's women and girls. The law gave women new legal protections that help ensure their safety.

Last month, Democratic and Republican Senators came together to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. The bill they approved would address the high rates of domestic violence committed against Native American women, ensure that LGBT victims have access to services, and make college campuses safer places to live and study.

Romney supporter Ted Nugent? Pedophile and draft dodger? His own words!
Amazing. The mainstream media hasn't said a word about this yet. They're focusing, of course, on the Motor City Madman's threat against the life of the President of the United States, but not a word (yet) about Ted Nugent's pedophilia (admitted in a 1998 VH1 interview attached to our last article) or how he told High Times magazine about the unsanitary and self-degrading way he avoided the draft.

Mitt Romney won. And now he's going to lose
So the hollow man has finally firmed his fragile hold on the GOP nomination, in another of T.S. Eliot's phrases, "not with a bang, but with a whimper." In the Wisconsin primary, the whimper was Mitt Romney's margin — a derisory 4 percent for someone to whom Republicans should rally overwhelmingly since they know he will be their standard bearer in November.

Obama by Default
The Republicans are a sick joke, and their narrow ideological stupidity has left rational voters no choice in the coming presidential election but Barack Obama. With Ron Paul out of it and warmongering hedge fund hustler Mitt Romney the likely Republican nominee, the GOP has defined itself indelibly as the party of moneyed greed and unfettered imperialism.

Oh, the Irony - Lead Plaintiff In Health Care Case Files Bankruptcy Due To Medical Bills!
Oh, the delicious irony. As everyone is aware, a class action lawsuit challenging the Constitutionality of the Health Care Reform Law is currently awaiting oral argument before the United States Supreme Court. The plaintiffs are arguing that the so-called mandate provisions, which provide for a penalty to be paid if someone does not obtain health insurance, violates their rights. On the other side, it is pointed out that skyrocketing medical costs for the uninsured are one of the chief reasons for individual bankruptcy filings. Well the lead plaintiff in the case, Mary Brown, seems to have proven the Act's defenders right. She was forced to file for bankruptcy this week after thousands of dollars in medical bills she incurred because of her refusal to obtain health insurance became too much to deal with.

Job Seekers' Facebook Passwords Asked For During U.S. Interviews
SEATTLE — When Justin Bassett interviewed for a new job, he expected the usual questions about experience and references. So he was astonished when the interviewer asked for something else: his Facebook username and password.

Bassett, a New York City statistician, had just finished answering a few character questions when the interviewer turned to her computer to search for his Facebook page. But she couldn't see his private profile. She turned back and asked him to hand over his login information.

Santorum says he doesn't believe in separation of church and state
Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum said Sunday that he doesn't believe in the separation of church and state, adding that he was sickened by John F. Kennedy's assurances to Baptist ministers 52 years ago that he would not impose his Catholic faith on them.

"I don't believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute," Santorum, a devout Catholic, said in an interview from Michigan on ABC's "This Week."

"The First Amendment means the free exercise of religion and that means bringing people and their faith into the public square."

Santorum's latest foray into the hot-button, faith-based issues that so fire up the party's evangelical base comes as his chief rival for the Republican nomination, Mitt Romney, begins to pull ahead slightly in the state of Michigan, where he was born and raised.

Penn Judge: Muslims Allowed to Attack People for Insulting Mohammad
Jonathon Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, reports on a disturbing case in which a state judge in Pennsylvania threw out an assault case involving a Muslim attacking an atheist for insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

Judge Mark Martin, an Iraq war veteran and a convert to Islam, threw the case out in what appears to be an invocation of Sharia law.

The incident occurred at the Mechanicsburg, Pa., Halloween parade where Ernie Perce, an atheist activist, marched as a zombie Muhammad. Talaag Elbayomy, a Muslim, attacked Perce, and he was arrested by police.

Judge Martin threw the case out on the grounds that Elbayomy was obligated to attack Perce because of his culture and religion. Judge Martin stated that the First Amendment of the Constitution does not permit people to provoke other people. He also called Perce, the plaintiff in the case, a "doofus." In effect, Perce was the perpetrator of the assault, in Judge Martin's view, and Elbayomy the innocent. The Sharia law that the Muslim attacker followed trumped the First Amendment. Read More
